Actor Elliot Page files for divorce two months after announcing he was transgender

Transgender star Elliot Page has filed for divorce from his wife Emma Portner, less than two months after the Umbrella Academy actor publicly declared himself transgender. At the time, his wife had written a public letter of support on social networks.

Elliot Page, 33, has filed legal papers in a Manhattan court seeking to dissolve their three-year marriage. His wife is a 26-year-old professional dancer.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, Elliot and Emma revealed that they had in fact separated last summer, before the actor introduced himself as transgender, and that they had now decided to make the separation official.

After much thought and reflection, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our separation last summer  the release says. We have the utmost respect for each other and will remain close friends, the actor and dancer said.
