The spin-off of New York, Special Unit is in mourning. The filming of the third season of New York, Organized Crime is experiencing a real tragedy. We are terribly saddened and shocked to learn that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and passed away as a result. We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time, a spokeswoman for NBC and Universal Television said in a statement.
Johnny Pizarro, a 31-year-old surveillance officer, was in his car in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. His job was to manage parking spaces and monitor equipment trucks. At 5:15 a.m. local time, a man wearing black pants and a black hoodie - according to witnesses - opened the door of the vehicle and fired several shots before fleeing. He is still wanted at this time and the reasons for this crime remain unknown at this time. The victim was transported to Woodhull Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to Variety.
The series is carried by Christopher Meloni alias the detective Elliot Stabler, who had left the series New York, Special Unit after the twelfth season. The latter will be back on the air in September for a 21st season.
