 Steph Deschamps / June 23, 2021

A tornado killed one person in Mascouche, a few dozen kilometers north of Montreal, Quebec's Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety announced Monday evening.

Extreme weather phenomenon in Mascouche. We unfortunately confirm the death of a man. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, announced on Twitter Geneviève Guilbault.

Our government teams are mobilized on the ground to help the victims and support the municipal authorities, she added.

The tornado would also have made several injured and touched several tens of buildings, according to the local media. Contacted in the evening by AFP, the Mascouche police department could not be reached for a precise assessment.
