The two men rescued the girl during their rounds.
On February 7, a 10-year-old child was kidnapped by Michael Sereal, a member of his family. Her parents quickly notified the authorities and an abduction alert was issued by the New Iberia police, reveals the KTVE channel. The next day, Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine rescued the little girl. As they were making their rounds, the two garbage collectors realized that something was wrong.
Dion Merrick explains what happened in a Facebook video: Something struck me. I said, What is this car doing in the middle of a field like this? In reality, the vehicle in question matched the description relayed by the police, that of the kidnapper. The two men then decided to block the car with their truck. Dion and Brandon then contacted law enforcement who rescued the girl from her abductor.
Congratulations, Dion feels that he did his job: I was just doing my job and I came across someone who needed help, he said. Several local media outlets are reporting that Michael Sereal was arrested for aggravated kidnapping and refusal to register as a sex offender. The girl was taken to the hospital for various tests.
