At least 19 people died Sunday and about 60 were injured in a fire in a building in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City, the city's new mayor Eric Adams announced at the scene.
This is going to be one of the worst fires in our history. We know we have 19 people dead as well as several others in critical condition and more than 63 people injured, Adams said live on television.
The new mayor of New York City, a former African-American police officer who took office on January 1, called it a real tragedy not just for the Bronx and the city.
