With the election less than 3 weeks away, the Democratic candidate is winding up her election campaign, and trying to rally the undecideds to her cause. To this end, Harris recently put forward a number of new proposals, including one that has caused quite a stir: the legalization of cannabis.
This Tuesday, the teams of the current Democratic vice-president posted on social networks a series of proposals that Kamala Harris would like to implement as president, with the main aim of offering more opportunities to African-American men.
Among these proposals, one stands out from the rest, and quickly got Internet users reacting: the legalization of recreational cannabis, with the aim of “breaking down the unjust barriers that prevent black men and other Americans from advancing and ensuring that black Americans have the opportunity to succeed in the marketplace,” Kamala Harris's networks read.
This marijuana proposal isn't the only one put forward by the 59-year-old candidate, however. With the aim of improving the lives of African-American men, Harris also wants to release funds for $20,000 forgivable loans for black entrepreneurs, as well as launch a health initiative targeting diseases that disproportionately impact African-American men.
With 19 days to go before the election, these proposals are no accident. As several polls reveal, the former California prosecutor remains less convincing to the African-American population than her Democratic predecessors.
Indeed, while 92% of African-Americans voted for Clinton in 2016, and 90% for Joe Biden in 2020, “only” 78% would be willing to vote for Harris in 2024, a drop of nearly 12%, which could make the difference in an election more indecisive than ever.
