U.S. President Joe Biden intends to run for re-election in the 2024 presidential election, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed Monday.
Asked if Joe Biden, who will be 82 years old by then, will run in 2024, the spokeswoman said indeed, that's the goal. She did not provide additional details.
Mr. Biden has been facing declining popularity in recent months, even among Democrats. His party has also been shaken by recent local election disappointments, won by Republicans, such as in Virginia.
The physical health of the U.S. president is also sometimes closely scrutinized, especially as he underwent a medical examination on Friday, which however proved to be encouraging for the 79-year-old.
