At least five people died and dozens more were injured after a tornado touched down on Tuesday in Iowa, in the central United States, according to the authorities.
Homes were completely flattened and trees uprooted by this tornado, which ravaged the town of Greenfield, population 2,000.
"Four dead and at least 35 injured following the tornado that touched down in Greenfield and the Adair County area," Iowa police said Wednesday, adding that the number of injured could still rise.
Another person died when his car was swept away by the tornado, said the Adam County Sheriff's Office.
A hospital was damaged in Greenfield and patients were evacuated to other medical centers. Around 100 rescue workers have begun searching the debris, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds also announced.
According to CNN, the number of tornadoes in the USA in recent weeks has far exceeded normal levels, with 800 recorded since the beginning of the year.
