A man who placed an explosive device in his suitcase at a Pennsylvania airport has been arrested, U.S. authorities announced Wednesday.
The device was detected during a routine hold baggage check" Monday at Lehigh Valley International Airport in the eastern part of the country, the U.S. Transportation Security Agency (TSA) said in a statement.
The suitcase triggered an alarm when it entered the baggage screening machine," prompting an agent to inspect its contents, the same source said.
After examining the circular-shaped device, hidden in the lining of the suitcase, federal police determined that it was indeed an explosive device in the form of powder, which could correspond to a substance used in fireworks, according to the complaint filed by the FBI, published by the site Axios.
Mr. Muffley had left the airport on Monday after an announcement asking him to go to the security office and was arrested by the police a few hours later.
