Nine people were wounded, five of them seriously, by gunfire Saturday night on a busy street in Philadelphia, USA. Shooters got out of a car and opened fire into the crowd, U.S. police said.
At least 40 rounds were fired in the incident, which occurred at 10:42 p.m., according to law enforcement. Police Commissioner John Stanford announced that "three or four people" got out of a car and shots were fired at a group of people.
Police have not yet established a motive or recovered any weapons.
Officers transported the victims, eight males and one female between the ages of 23 and 40, to local hospitals. Five of the victims' lives are in danger, four others are in stable condition.
The shooting comes amidst a spate of gun violence in the city, where police statistics show that 2,000 people have been killed or wounded by gunfire this year alone. This is a record high since 2015.
Saturday's incident took place in a neighborhood known for drug use and gun violence.
