The city of Kryvyi Rig, in central Ukraine, is threatened with flooding after a Russian strike damaged water infrastructure and caused a river to flood, the Ukrainian presidency said Wednesday.
At the point of impact, there is a water flow of 100 m3 per second, which is a large volume. The water level of the Ingoulets (river) changes every hour," said the deputy head of the presidential administration Kyrylo Tymoshenko.
According to him, the center and another district of this city of 600,000 inhabitants are "under the risk of flooding".
"It is a challenge for all of us, but the situation is under control. All services are involved to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible," he added on Telegram.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a native of Kryvyï Rig, had previously announced a Russian strike that targeted "hydraulic infrastructures" there, without causing any casualties. An "attempt to flood Kryvyï Rig", according to him.
The governor of the region, Valentin Reznichenko, for his part, mentioned seven Russian Kh-22 missiles fired from an aircraft, which "seriously damaged" these infrastructures.
