Vietnam recorded a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday at a weather station in the north of the country, authorities said.
The survey was conducted by a station in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa, the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting said.
This beats the previous national record of 43.4 degrees Celsius, recorded on April 20, 2019 in Huong Khe District, central Ha Tinh Province.
This is a worrying record in the context of climate change and global warming," Nguyen Ngoc Huy, a climate science expert, told AFP from the capital Hanoi.
Vietnam's climate varies from north to south, but the entire country is now entering its warmest months.
South Asia suffered a heat wave for most of April, and neighboring countries also experienced record temperatures.
I think this record will be repeated several times," added Nguyen Ngoc Huy. "It confirms that the extreme climate models are proving to be accurate. »
Scientists have shown that global warming exacerbates extreme weather conditions.
A recent report by the United Nations climate experts (IPCC) warns that each increase in global warming intensifies major natural hazards (heat waves, extreme precipitation, droughts, etc).
