British sanctions against Russia after its invasion of Ukraine could be lifted if Moscow committed to a full ceasefire and withdrew its troops, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said Saturday.
These statements echo those of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken indicating that the sanctions against Russia were not designed to be permanent and that they could disappear if Moscow changed its attitude.
The United States has assured Kiev that it has no objection to the transfer of Polish fighter jets to Ukraine, the Ukrainian foreign minister said Saturday evening in a written message sent to AFP.
The ball is now in Poland's court, added Dmytro Kouleba, who met with US President Joe Biden on Saturday during his two-day visit to Poland.
Russian strikes on Saturday afternoon on Lviv, a large city in western Ukraine relatively unaffected by the fighting so far, hit a fuel depot and a strategic military site and injured five people, according to local authorities.
The Russian army has now also taken control of the town of Slavutitch, where the staff of the Chernobyl plant resides, and there has been no turnover of employees for almost a week, i.e. March 20, at the site, the IAEA statement said.
The agency is concerned about the ability of employees who manage the day-to-day operations at the radioactive waste site to go home and rest.
