The Chinese army announced on Monday, despite international calls, the continuation of military exercises near Taiwan, still to protest against the visit to the island claimed by Beijing of the number three American Nancy Pelosi.
China began live-fire maneuvers in six large areas around Taiwan on Thursday, the day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi left Taipei.
These exercises, at least in this configuration, were supposed to end at noon on Sunday (04:00 GMT) according to the Chinese Maritime Security Administration. But maneuvers continue on Monday.
The People's Liberation Army ... continues to conduct joint practical exercises in the sea and air space around Taiwan, focusing on joint anti-submarine and sea assault operations, the Eastern Theater Command said in a statement.
The U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, had denounced the total disproportion according to him of the Chinese reaction and particularly of these maneuvers, during which Chinese missiles were fired.
After criticism from the G7 and the United States, he issued a joint statement with his Japanese and Australian counterparts calling on China to stop these military exercises.
