The first effects of the storm Fiona were felt Friday evening in Guadeloupe, placed in red vigilance for heavy rains and thunderstorms shortly before 6 p.m. Some roads were already waterlogged in the evening, especially in Basse-Terre, where is expected the bulk of the phenomenon during the night.
According to the latest bulletin of Meteo-France, the center of the storm Fiona was at 18 hours above Guadeloupe, where gusty winds are expected "up to 100/120 km / h" during the night, as well as heavy rains that can generate "many floods. "All travel is from now on to avoid (...) it is really necessary to stay at home" to "avoid that risks are taken", insisted the prefect of Guadeloupe, Alexandre Rochatte, Friday evening in the local media.
"Air traffic will be suspended from 7:00 pm tonight until tomorrow, Saturday at 12:00 am" and will resume only depending on the weather conditions, the statement also said.
The storm Fiona was initially to graze the Guadeloupe archipelago but "has descended a little further south than expected," according to Meteo-France, which has placed Martinique in orange vigilance "heavy rain and thunderstorms.
