A Russian underground group, the National Republican Army, claimed responsibility for the attack on Daria Dugin, the daughter of Russian philosopher and nationalist, considered the mastermind of the invasion of Ukraine, Alexander Dugin, said a former member of the Duma, Ilya Ponomarev, on Sunday night on his own TV channel broadcasting from Kiev, reports The Guardian.
Ilya Ponomarev, expelled from Russia for his anti-Kremlin activities, says this group of supporters authorized him to make a statement. We declare the instigators of the war and those who rob the people and oppress them outlawed, reads a statement sent to the former MP. President Putin is a war criminal who has tampered with the constitution, unleashed a war between the Slavic peoples and led Russian soldiers to certain and senseless death.
According to Ponomarev, who now lives in Kiev, they are a group of Russian supporters trying to overthrow Putin's regime. The Guardian reports that the information could not be verified.
The former Russian MP believes that the attack on Daria Dugin on Saturday nightnear Moscow is a new chapter in the resistance against Putin. A new one, but not the last, he said. He even claims that Russian supporters are ready to carry out other similar attacks against high-ranking targets with ties to the Kremlin.
Daria Dugin is the daughter of Alexander Dugin, a Russian ideologist close to Putin. Both supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which is why sanctions were imposed on them in the US and UK.
The 30-year-old woman was killed in an explosion Saturday night as she drove her father's car home near Moscow. According to the National Republican Army's statement, she was a legitimate target because she was a well-known supporter of the war in Ukraine.
Ponomarev was the only Russian MP to vote against the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Upon his return from the United States, he was denied entry to Russia. In 2019, he became a Ukrainian citizen. After Russia invaded that country, he started his own TV channel to broadcast information about anti-war actions.
