A loud explosion was heard Monday near the Russian embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul. According to Afghan media reports, the explosion occurred at a time when many people were queuing for visas outside the diplomatic post. A journalist reported that several people were killed, including two embassy employees. But this information could not yet be verified.
According to residents, the Taliban regime's security services closed the street to the embassy. Russia retained its embassy in Kabul when the Islamist movement regained power in August 2021 after the withdrawal of international troops.
Since then, the Islamic State terrorist group has carried out several attacks on civilians in the country.
Two employees of the Russian embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, were killed Monday in a bomb attack on the outskirts of the diplomatic representation, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.
At 10:50 a.m. local time, in the immediate vicinity of the Russian embassy in Kabul, an unidentified fighter detonated an explosive device. Two employees of the diplomatic mission were killed in the attack, Russian diplomacy said in a statement, also reporting injuries among Afghan nationals.
