Thirteen members of the Iraqi Federal Police were killed in an attack by the Islamic State (IS) group on their checkpoint near Kirkuk (north), on the night of Saturday to Sunday, it was learned from medical and security sources.
The attack on the dam south of Kirkuk began shortly before midnight and lasted several hours, a senior Iraqi police officer told AFP. In this region, jihadist cells regularly carry out attacks against the Iraqi army and police. This is one of the deadliest IS attacks since the beginning of the year.
