The death toll from devastating floods in Germany climbed again on Saturday to at least 133, police said Saturday, bringing the European death toll to 153
According to current information 90 people lost their lives during the disaster, in the Rhineland-Palatinate region alone, one of the most affected, said the police in Koblenz.
This is in addition to the 43 deaths in North Rhine-Westphalia, another German region hit by the disaster, and the 20 deaths in Belgium.
This toll is still very provisional. Many people are still missing in the west of Germany and in Belgium, making us fear a heavier toll in the coming hours.
It is feared that we will discover more deaths, said local German authorities.
Between July 14 and 15, Germany and Belgium were hit by torrential rains of unprecedented violence, which caused flash floods invading inhabited areas and destroying numerous localities.
The Netherlands and Luxembourg have also been affected, but no deaths have been recorded so far.
