A man armed with a knife killed seven people and injured seven others on Sunday in a small town in northeast China, for reasons still unknown, according to state media.
The attack took place on the streets of Kaiyuan in Liaoning province on Sunday morning, the China New News Agency reported.
The assailant killed seven and wounded seven in what appeared to be an indiscriminate attack, and was then arrested by police outside a bathhouse, the same source said.
An investigation to determine the circumstances of the tragedy is underway, the Kaiyuan Public Security Bureau said in a statement posted on the Weibo social network.
Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, due to the lack of other instruments for killing in a country where the carrying of a gun is not allowed for ordinary citizens.
They are regularly carried out blindly by people who consider themselves victims of injustice and want revenge on society.
In February 2019, a man who suspected his wife of adultery stabbed eight people to death and injured seven others in a village in northwestern Gansu province.
In April 2018, an individual killed nine college students leaving their school in Shaanxi province (north) and injured 12 others. The 28-year-old said he acted out of revenge after being harassed while a student at the same college.
