A tsunami warning was issued Saturday after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti, according to the U.S. Geophysical Institute (USGS). The earthquake occurred more than 160 km southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince, according to the USGS.
The powerful earthquake that hit Haiti has left several people dead, the country's civil protection director, Jerry Chandler, told AFP. There are deaths, I confirm, but I do not yet have the precise balance, said Chandler, noting that Prime Minister Ariel Henry was on his way to the national emergency operation center in Port-au-Prince.
