The EMSC reports this new tremor
The European Monitoring Centre for Seismology (EMSC) reported that a new earthquake of magnitude 5.6 struck central Turkey. This earthquake was felt Tuesday, February 7, the day after two tragic earthquakes hit the country and Syria.
As Ouest France recalls, the first tremor occurred at 4:17 in the night from Sunday to Monday, local time in the district of Pazarcik (southeast). The earth shook again because of an earthquake of magnitude 7.8, still in this part of the country, 4 km southeast of the town of Ekinozu.
More than 4,361 people lost their lives in Turkey and Syria after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks. A fire broke out in the port of İskenderun on the Mediterranean Sea after the quakes, according to the Associated Press. Rescue workers are facing many difficulties due in part to the cold and dark weather. The first international aid will arrive on Tuesday with the first teams of rescue workers from France and Qatar in particular.
According to BFMTV, the French intend to go to Kahramanmaras, epicenter of the first earthquake. Note that this region, difficult to access, is deeply damaged buried under the snow.
