Twelve people were arrested in southern Italy during a police operation against mafia networks, judicial authorities announced Tuesday. Twenty-seven companies and 21 properties were also seized, with a total value of 32 million euros.
Entrepreneurs and suspected members of the Calabrian mafia Ndrangheta are among those arrested, police said. Eight suspects have been detained, and four are under house arrest. The entrepreneurs, some of whom operate in Slovenia and Romania, are believed to have worked with the mafia in the construction and food transport sectors.
It took two years of investigation for the anti-mafia police and financial investigators to dismantle this mafia network.
