A bus carrying schoolchildren ran off the road and onto its side in Germany on Sunday morning. The driver and 27 young people were injured, according to the police. Three girls and a boy were seriously injured, but no one is life-threatening.
The accident occurred at around 6:30 am on a freeway near Wenden in North Rhine-Westphalia. The vehicle was transporting 67 pupils and five teachers from a secondary school in Marburg (Hesse) to England. The police have opened an investigation to determine the precise circumstances of the accident.
The four seriously injured students were taken to hospital, as was the 54-year-old driver. The others received medical treatment.
This school bus accident is the third of its kind to occur in Germany in recent weeks. Last month, a Flixbus crashed near Leipzig, killing four and injuring 35. A few days later, another school bus ran off the road near Werl, east of Dortmund, injuring 21 occupants.
