French President Emmanuel Macron, who has not yet declared his candidacy for the presidential election, will hold his first campaign meeting on Saturday, March 5 in Marseille, at the Parc Chanot, three sources from his LREM party told AFP on Wednesday.
The head of state should declare his candidacy in the course of next week, at a date still unknown, according to his entourage.
In the midst of the crisis between Ukraine and Russia, Emmanuel Macron has pushed the question of his candidacy as close as possible to the deadline set by the Constitutional Council on March 4.
The head of state is very attached to the idea of proving that he presides until the last quarter of the hour, according to his entourage.
His declaration of candidacy should therefore be postponed to the week of February 28.
According to an Elabe poll published Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron is still in the lead of voting intentions in the first round of the presidential election (24.5%), ahead of Marine Le Pen (RN) at 18%, while Eric Zemmour (Reconquest!) is stable at 13.5% and Valerie Pécresse (LR) falls to 11.5%, just ahead of the LFI candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon(11%).
