In Denmark, there are practically no more anti-Covid restrictions. The authorities have decided to lift the requirement to wear a mouth mask and present a health pass as of February 1, despite a still high number of infections.
Large-scale events and nightclubs can also reopen without hindrance.
I want the categorization of Covid-19 as a threat to society to be abolished as of February 1, 2022, said Health Minister Magnus Heunicke, which means that all current national restrictions, such as the wearing of masks or the early closure of bars and restaurants, will be lifted de facto.
The government only wants to maintain for another four weeks certain restrictions on entry into Denmark, namely testing and/or quarantine depending on the country of origin. In addition, hospitals and residential care centers are still advised to have visitors wear a mouth mask and to use the health pass.
We have reached the end of the critical phase, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen proclaimed last week. As of February 1, Denmark will be fully open again. We are ready to come out of the shadow of the coronavirus and say 'goodbye' to the restrictions and 'welcome' to the life we knew before.
The lifting of the anti-Covid measures comes at a time when Denmark is registering between 33,000 and 47,000 new infections per day - a figure that is significantly higher than before and is due to the contagiousness of the Omicron variant. However, the high infection rate is not putting a strain on hospitals, thanks in part to the high vaccination coverage in the Scandinavian country.
Denmark had already lifted its anti-Covid restrictions in September, but the country then had to backtrack and gradually reintroduce them as the number of new infections increased sharply.
