American director Quentin Tarantino's first novel, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a loose adaptation of his eponymous film released in 2019 and winner of two Oscars, will be published on August 18, Fayard Publishing announced Tuesday.

The director of Pulp Fiction - Golden Palm at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and Oscar for best screenplay the following year - will tell the adventures of Rick Dalton, a western actor, and his sidekick Cliff Booth in 1969 Los Angeles, where the hippie movement is at its peak, Fayard said in a release.

The work is loosely based on his film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019. With nearly $400 million in worldwide receipts, it is the director's second biggest hit, behind Django Unchained (2012).

Quentin Tarantino transcends his unique style, his boundless inventiveness and his phenomenal sense of dialogue and editing to deliver a novel of incredible virtuosity, write Fayard Editions.

The book will first be released in the United States (June 29), by Harper Collins.
