Dutch actress Carice van Houten, best known for her role in the "Game of Thrones" series, was arrested on Saturday during a climate action organized by Extinction Rebellion in the Netherlands, according to local media.
The 46-year-old actress was part of a group of activists blocking the Utrechtsebaan section of the A12 freeway in central The Hague to protest against Dutch fossil fuel subsidies.
The police, who used water cannons to disperse the activists, announced on Twitter in the course of the afternoon that they had made arrests. Ms. Van Houten, who had previously indicated her presence at the scene on her Instagram account, "was taken away" in one of the buses chartered to evacuate the arrested individuals, the Dutch news agency ANP reported.
In a video she posted on the social network, the actress - who plays Melisandre in "Game of Thrones" - can be seen wearing a red poncho, getting wet from the water cannons.
This was the seventh action organized in recent months by the Extinction Rebellion movement on this stretch of road in The Hague. Several Dutch celebrities took part in these actions.
