Two-time Emmy Award winner Kirstie Alley, who came to prominence on the TV series "Cheers," died of cancer at the age of 71, her family announced Monday.
"We are sad to report that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, which was only recently discovered," her children Lillie Price Stevenson and William True Stevenson announced in a statement posted on Twitter. "Our mother's drive and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest as she did," they added.
Kirstie Alley became known for her role as Rebecca Howe in the NBC series "Cheers", about the lives of the regulars in a Boston bar, for which she received the 1991 Emmy for best actress in a leading role in a comedy series.
She received a second Emmy for her portrayal of a single mother raising her autistic son in the 2020 film "David to Madness".
Kirstie Alley also starred in the 1989 romantic comedy "Hello Mommy Here Baby" - as well as its two sequels - alongside John Travolta.
This one paid tribute to the actress Monday night, posting on Instagram a photo of Kristie Alley young woman.
"Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I've ever had," said John Travolta. "I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again."
