Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who was in charge of weapons on the shooting that took Halyna Hutchins' life, explained a month earlier that she was not sure I was ready.
The investigation into the death of a director of photography in the United States, killed by a shot from Alec Baldwin during the filming of a Western, continued on Saturday with increased focus on two people: the gunner and the assistant director of the film.
The first, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, 24, has, according to a preliminary investigation report cited by the press, prepared the weapon with which the actor fired Thursday in the direction of Halyna Hutchins, 42, who later died of his injuries.
The second, Dave Halls, 31, handed the gun to Baldwin during a rehearsal for a scene in the film, informing him that it was cold, meaning not loaded with a live round in movie lingo.
But while the investigation is focused on those two, one of them, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, had said a month ago in a podcast that she wasn't sure she was ready after doing her first shoot as a weapons officer.
According to HLN's information, earlier this year, the 24-year-old got her first job as a gun handler in the western The Old Way with Nicholas Cage. But on a podcast, she expressed her doubts: I almost turned down the job because I wasn't sure I was ready.
The young woman had also confided that she had learned mostly by watching her father do it: I also learned a lot by watching him work. I found loading the blanks super scary, because I didn't know anything about it. But he taught me how. And I discovered some of the techniques myself, she explained.
Hannah Gutierrez Reed also explained how to proceed when using a gun on the shoot: You open the magazine, put the bullet in and then you have to bring the blank right in front of the gun so that it shoots the next time the plug is pulled and the gun is fired. You have to look carefully at which bullet is the blank, if there are also dummy bullets in it. I always try to put in as many dummies as possible because it's more realistic. Some people don't want that for some reason. It's just the way you feel most comfortable, she added.
