In 1959, Cara Williams was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress for her participation in the film The Chain, which will remain the peak of her career. It began in the 1940s, under the direction of great directors of the time as Otto Preminger (Laura), Elia Kazan (Boomerang) and Nicholas Ray (Alleys of Woe).
A mythical film
In "The Chain", the actress played Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier who were forced to escape together, despite their visceral hatred for each other because of their skin color. Cara Williams played a woman that the two prisoners meet and that Tony Curtis will fall in love with.
Not long ago, in 2016, the actress had confided that she had only worked on the film for two weeks for minimum wage. Her surprise was therefore immense when she had learned of her nomination: I only spent on this film.
The actress died last week at her home in Beverly Hills after a heart attack. It was her daughter who announced the news to the Hollywood Reporter: My mother was a very loving person. She was always ready to help you.
