A man opens fire and kills at least 8 people in a university in Perm: the author of the shooting arrested!

Steph Deschamps / September 20, 2021

A student killed eight people in a shooting Monday at the university in the eastern Russian city of Perm in the Urals before being wounded and arrested, the country's Investigative Committee said.

Such armed incidents have increased in Russia in recent years, leading to a tightening of the legislation on carrying weapons.

On September 20, a student in one of the university buildings opened fire on the people around. As a result, eight people died and several were injured, said a statement from the body responsible for the country's most important investigations.

He added that the toll was being clarified.

The author was injured during his arrest as he was resisting, added the Investigation Committee, which did not immediately give information on the motive of the shooter.

Fleeing the shooting, students jumped from the first-floor windows of a university building, according to videos posted on social media.

Another video, shot from a window, showed an individual dressed entirely in black opening fire and heading towards the entrance of a building.

The assailant, whose identity has been established but not released, entered the campus at 11 a.m. local time, according to the university's press office.
