A private plane carrying cocaine bound for Belgium was intercepted in Brazil, L'Echo and De Tijd reported on Friday. The cargo of 1.3 tons of white powder was heading for Brussels Airport.
The Brazilian police intercepted a private plane of type Gulfstream 4 at the airport of Fortaleza (Nordeste) Wednesday. The plane, coming from Malaga in Spain, was to take the direction of Brussels Airport with not less than 1,3 ton of cocaine, distributed in 24 suitcases, on board.
The owner of the plane, the Turkish company ACM Air, confirmed that a Spanish customer had rented the jet to fly to Brussels from Brazil on August 4. The latter also has a Belgian passport and would come from the province of Liege.
This is the first time that such a drug shipment has been discovered on board a private jet bound for Belgium, says Marc Vancoillie, from the Central Directorate for the Fight against Serious and Organized Crime of the Federal Police. When asked about this, the public prosecutor's office in Hal-Vilvoorde, which is responsible for Brussels Airport, and the public prosecutor's office in Antwerp confirmed that there is no drug file with a private plane.
